She Keeps Bees reveal "Radiance", on tour now

"It's glow comes like warm reds and oranges breaking the haze...She Keeps Bees manage deceptively gentle emotional forces." -Consequence of Sound

(please post and share)
Today She Keeps Bees have revealed a new single from their new album, Eight Houses, out September 16th on Future Gods Records.  "Radiance" is another beautifully crafted, powerful song with gentle instrumentation indicative of the stunning timelessness that She Keeps Bees have created with Eight Houses.

Eight Houses finds She Keeps Bees working with an outside producer, Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, The War On Drugs, Dirty Projectors, etc.) for the first time and enlisting guest musicians including Sharon Van Etten and Adam Schatz.

She Keeps Bees are on tour now, their highly affecting live show is not to be missed! All dates below.

"Low-key but powerful, trailing wisps of desolation, menace, and regret. Larrabee's moan is a ripple of unease in stale air, occupied only by some keyboard and a drum track."

"Larrabee's soothing alto murmurs against minimal organ parts and a sparse drumbeat, and the less-is-more effect is powerful." -Stereogum

Considering how controlled the chaos is on Eight Houses-a record that's ruptured by riffs and rattled by rhythms without leaping straight off the rails-it's tough to imagine a time when Jessica Larrabee and Andy LaPlant didn't finish each other's sentences, creatively and personally. But that's how She Keeps Bees began: with LaPlant bashing a borrowed kit (including a garbage-picked floor tom) atop a step-ladder and Larrabee directing the dark solo recordings she began soon after moving from Philadelphia to Brooklyn.
"It was trial by fire," says LaPlant of their early rehearsals. "Luckily what she wanted out of me at the time wasn't complicated."
"We grew together slowly," adds Larrabee, "like a tree. It felt powerful with him behind me. Nothing really clicked until I met Andy."
That dynamic became more pronounced with each passing record, peaking with the self-produced songs of Nests and Dig On, the latter of which expanded the pair's minimal sound with bass parts and synths. Now joined by an outside producer (Rare Book Room's Nicolas Vernhes) and guest musicians including Sharon Van Etten and Adam Schatz, She Keeps Bees revels in the raw power of subtlety, silence and space, coloring Larrabee's compositions with lean piano lines, hazy horns and warm organ rolls.
"There was definitely a batch of more aggressive songs that got cut from the record," explains LaPlant. "Having a producer was nice in that respect; if things were starting to sound too similar and we didn't hear it, Nicolas wasn't shy about letting us know. We wanted to step outside our comfort zone stylistically, which really gives Jess' songwriting a chance to shine."
It also pushes her dense lyrics to the fore, exploring a wide range of universal emotions (desire, obsession, change) and looking for answers to questions our teachers never addressed, from the blood-splattered war hero status Custer earned during his "last stand" to the forced assimilation of Native Americans on the open roads She Keeps Bees toured for the first time in 2012.
"The reservations left a heartache in me," she explains, "and swarms of questions. I began reading stories. The more I read the history, the more I realized this was a universal story of 'progress': the Western world surrounding indigenous people, taking their natural resources, destroying their sense of self."
And yet there's still a light at the end of the tumultuous tunnel Eight Houses carves over the course of 10 punchy, confident songs. It kicks in as "Raven" collides with its choruses, meeting the human condition head on.
"Let the toxic mimics roll off us all," says Larrabee. "Let the power of your truest self rest in your heart.  Draw strength from below your navel-a place where there is no fear. Honor the gravity of the emotion but do not be consumed."

"Dexy Valentine's Bonfire Beach project drives a wedge between her dreamy work on Magic Wands,
and her desire for a rumbling motorbike, heroin-chic aesthetic dusty enough to get compared to B.R.M.C." -LA  Weekly

Dexy Valentine is the front woman of Magic Wands & Bonfire Beach.

Magic Wands have garnished great success in music licenses via Zynch, having songs
featured on Victoria's Secret, Vogue fashion Week, Gucci, Zara, T-mobile, Beauty &
the Beast, Vampire Diaries & the Diablo Cody film "The Power of Few" with
Christopher Walken & Christen Slater.  Magic Wands have toured & opened for
The Kills, The Horrors, The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Black Keys, The Raconteurs,
The Breeders, The Wombats and have made appearances at SXSW, Glastonbury
& Lollapalooza.

Presently Magic Wands are finishing up their second album tilted Stranded
on Earth the anticipated follow up to their acclaimed debut album Aloha Moon
that was released late 2012.

Meanwhile Dexy Valentine has delved into a darker sound and embarked on a side
project called "Bonfire Beach" where she waves her magic wand over the gritty golden
lights of Hollywood's lost angels to the moonlit seances of the gypsy trodden beachcombers.

Bonfire Beach's debut self tilted album is due out on Cleopatra Records & the band
will be main support for The Dandy Warhols' fall tour this Sept/Oct. The LA Weekly has
given praise to Bonfire Beach listing them in "LA's top ten bands to blow up in 2014" as

Los Angeles.

Bonfire Beach's debut single/video "Spit U Out" has just been released via Manimal Vinal.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Bonfire Beach will be releasing their new self-titled LP

Zola Jesus Reveals "Dangerous Days" Video

OUT OCTOBER 7th, 2014

Still from “Dangerous Days” directed by Tim Saccenti

Nika Danilova’s voice is an elemental, powerful thing.” (Best New Music) – Pitchfork

“Zola Jesus’ most profound, accessible release to date.” – Billboard

“A beautiful electro-pop gem, and the only thing dangerous about it is how freaking addictive it is.” –NYLON

“Elegant synth-pop banger” – Spin

“Danilova has a full-on anthem on her hands with this one.” – Flavorwire
Zola Jesus unleashes an otherworldly video for “Dangerous Days” directed by contemporary visionaryTim Saccenti who has created an awe-inspiring backdrop for this anthemic song.  Saccenti explains, “The song is a pure emotional plea, a future primitive call to arms. To create a moment of light in these dark times was our hope. Eschewing a heavy narrative we let the images of the Earth, filmed in wide screen and mixed with a tense unnatural presence, wash over the viewer while Nika communicates her powerful message.”  Nika describes the video making process, “Working with Tim was effortless. His creative ambition to turn the abstract into a tangible feel is a rare treasure.”   Watch the video for “Dangerous Days,” premiered by Vogue.com here.

Zola Jesus’s TAIGA is due for release October 7th, 2014 on Mute.  First single “Dangerous Days” is now available to stream here, and the album is available to pre-order here.  Nika’s record release tourbegins in San Francisco on October 8th, hitting major US cities, before the UK and Europe. Full list of dates is below, and tickets are on sale now here.  Watch the tour trailer here.

Nika is the 25-year-old behind Zola Jesus’ creative incarnations as sole singer and songwriter.  Influenced by her time in Iceland, Vermont, and British Columbia, TAIGA was written on Vashon Island, WA and conjures all these places while creating a sonic space of its own that each listener can travel to, explore, hide in, and celebrate. Nika tracked and mixed the album in Los Angeles with co-producer Dean Hurley (David Lynch, Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse).

At once challenging and accessible, TAIGA is a transition for Zola Jesus. Undeniably branded with what Nika terms a “piercing ambition,” the album is best described by the artist herself: “The music on the record is massive, with big brass and beats, crystal clear vocals…It’s the most accessible music I’ve ever made, but also the most earnest and passionate. I gave everything for this record, more than ever before.”

Lia Ices Reveals Striking Video For "Higher!" Additional Tour Dates!

Set To Support Phantogram In September & October

Lia Ices is excited to reveal the video for her newest single 'Higher."  The video premiered via Paper who described it saying "('Higher') features kaleidoscopic visions of the artist and her brother as they explore Jamaica."  They went on to describe her upcoming album as "a wide variety of instrumentals, experimentation and people together; it takes the listener from north of New York City to San Francisco and Jamaica with a constant sense of levity, expressed both in the lyrics and lofty sounds."   Paper spoke to Lia about her album and the single - read their full conversation here.
Watch "Higher" (embed code below):

Lia Ices - "Higher" (Official Video)

"Higher" was shot in Jamaica by Storm Saulter with additional camera work by Bryan Ling and Andrew Mariani.   Ices herself directed the video.   Lia says, "The making of this album continuously took us out of our familiar world. During our time in jamaica we found a levity and openness we tapped into  - an energy that is at the core of the song, and of this whole album.  We met the Jamaican film maker Storm Saulter and spent a couple days cruising/exploring with him and making this video. We just had fun.  When you can be limitless with your experiences, give into other cultures, sounds, and people, the more you actually feel like yourself."
Stereogum has called "Higher" an "experimental pop number with lots of empty space but plenty going on...this (is a) weird, wonderful song" and
Consequence of Sound labeled it "an ethereal earworm" and continued "the pop number's worth a spot on your 'Songs of Summer' playlist."
Ices previously announced she will be supporting Phantogram on their fall tour of the U.S.  She has now also confirmed headlining dates in New York (9/17),
Los Angeles (9/23) and San Francisco (9/24).   Her tour with Phantogram follows these dates.   All shows are listed below.
Lia Ices will be releasing her new album Ices on September 16 via Jagjaguwar.  The album was co-produced by Benny Sagittarius (the newly formed production team of Lia and her brother Eliot) and Clams Casino.  You can watch an album trailer for Ices here.

Previous to "Higher" Lia Ices released a video for the single "Thousand Eyes"  which you can watch here.   Pretty Much Amazing reviewed the single saying, "'Thousand Eyes' (is an) effortless and lovely weirdo pop tailor-made for summer afternoons and evenings, figuring Lia's otherworldly, Kate Bush-ian vocals front and center over a bubbly guitar line and soaring synth drones."

"(Lia has an) impressively supple voice, which can spiral up into a giddy falsetto and fall crashing to the floor in dolorous rumination within a heartbeat"

Mark Lanegan Band to release Phantom Radio on October 21

Pre-order Begins Today

Hear “Floor Of The Ocean” Now On Soundcloud

(August 27, 2014) – On October 21, 2014, the MARK LANEGAN BAND will release a brand new full-length,Phantom Radio, through Flooded Soil/Vagrant on in the U.S.

Phantom Radio, produced by Alain Johannes, is Lanegan’s ninth release under his own name, his 20th if you include his collaborations, and close to his 50th if you include his guest appearances.

Fans can pre-order Phantom Radio beginning today at iTunes (http://smarturl.it/phantomradio). The deluxe editionincludes an instant gratification digital version of the previously vinyl-only 5-track EP, No Bells On Sunday.

Fans can hear the first track revealed from Phantom Radio, “Floor Of The Ocean,” here:

Phantom Radio track listing:

  1. Harvest Home
  2. Judgement Time
  3. Floor Of The Ocean
  4. The Killing Season
  5. Seventh Day
  6. I Am The Wolf
  7. Torn Red Heart
  8. Waltzing In Blue
  9. The Wild People
  10. Death Trip To Tulsa

Lanegan's chief compositional tool on Phantom Radio was his phone – specifically an app called Funk Box. “I didn’t bother to hook up my 909 and 808 this time,” he says, “because the app had ’em. I’d write drum parts with it then add music with the synthesizer or the guitar.” The album grew organically from these synthetic roots, taking in Mark’s ongoing love of Krautrock and also an ’80s new wave show on Sirius satellite radio, his favored aural companion as he drives around Los Angeles. “They have a few good shows but the ‘80s one in particular I like,” he says. “That’s the music that was happening when I started making music. And although the Trees drew on Nuggets psychedelia, 13th Floor Elevators and Love, we were actually listening to Echo And The Bunnymen, Rain Parade, the Gun Club. A lot of British post-punk. We loved that stuff. I just waited until I was in my late forties before I started ripping it off.”

Lanegan’s generous collaborative spirit sees him deliver an excellent co-write with British guitarist Duke Garwood, with whom he made last year’s dustbowl-desolate Black Pudding, and who now offers the music for “I Am The Wolf,” a Lanegan signature tune. Mark’s favorite song on the album, meanwhile, is “Torn Red Heart,” an intensely tender meditation for a broken heart that’s like The Velvet Underground’s “Pale Blue Eyes” orchestrated by Angelo Badalamenti. He also has a special mention for “Floor Of The Ocean,”which balances sheer catchiness with a deceptively bleak lyrical reflection on a life lived on the hard shoulder: “Clear eyes, can’t avoid the searchlight/Hope that they don’t find me/Find me where I’m lying.”

together PANGEA Reveals "Badillac" Video

Los Angeles-based trio together PANGEA are excited to reveal their video for "Badillac," from their recently-released Harvest Records debut of the same name. The sci-fi inspired clip was premiered by
A.V. Club, who noted that it "has some serious Young Frankenstein vibes, as well as some solid tunes to back it up." The Ryan Baxley-directed video is available to stream and embed HERE. The band has also announced a string of fall and winter tour dates, continuing tonight in Eugene, OR at Cozmic Pizza and concluding on November 8 in Austin, TX at Fun Fun Fun Nights. The current list of tour dates can be found below.

together PANGEA has received much praise for Badillac, with Consequence of Sound awarding the album an A-, noting Badillac is "moody, it's fun, and it's the sort of thing I want to believe in - one of those rare listens where you think, Okay, I get this... and I think it gets me." MTV News ushered in its release by listing the album as one of the ten "Most Anticipated Indie Albums of 2014," while Stereogum declared "gear up for one of 2014's wildest records." VICE Magazine awarded Badillac with "Album Cover of the Month," and lauded the record, exclaiming "finally, a garage band with some fucking balls. Let 'em fly, motherfuckers." MTV Hive summed up the band aptly, saying "together PANGEA is just one fucking fun band." Referring to the 7-inch that preceded BadillacPitchfork said "Snakedog" is "an absolute shredder worthy of its awesomely ridiculous title." Badillac is now available on iTunes and Amazon.
together PANGEA do rock 'n' roll as it was meant to be - raw, unpredictable, and probably dangerous, but also blazing with intelligence, emotion and edgy experimentation. The Los Angeles-based trio made their bones as purveyors of post-millenial punk, but with their third full length release - and Harvest Records debut - Badillac, they pay their debt to the supersonic 90s rock that first inspired them. The band has not sacrificed a spurt of precious energy, instead integrating nuance and dynamic momentum to songs like "No Way Out" and the undeniably badass title track. The volcanic riffs and massive melodies are matched by an equally provocative lyrical stance, with songs like "Sick Shit" and the album-closing "Where the Night Ends" casting an acerbic eye over the wreckage of the party they helped start - it's 3 am and the drunken fun has given way to sexual panic, anxiety and self-doubt. Slightly stoned but by no means slack, Badillac reveals together PANGEA to be both confident and surprisingly committed, their audacious ambition already impossible to contain.
together PANGEA tour dates:

8/28 - Black Lodge - Seattle, WA
8/29 - The Bartlett - Spokane, WA
8/30 - Nootkah Sound Festival - Vancouver, BC
